The first day of our epic trip to the Isle of Skye in September 2016 saw us heading north towards the very fabulous Trigony House Hotel near Dumfries, where we were to spend our first night away. A whilst back a friend of ours had posted some pics on Facebook of her and her doglets enjoying themselves on a large, sandy expanse called Silverdale beach, and the moment I saw her photos I was ‘Googling’ madly so I could find out where where it was. It’s location, just 15 minutes from the M6 in Lancashire made it a perfect diversion destination for Hooves to have a good run to stretch his legs mid-drive to Dumfries. (map) So if you fancy a dog walk by the sea on Silverdale Beach, Lancashire, read on…
The historic village of Silverdale sits on the coastline of Morcombe Bay in a spot that’s been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A combination of sat nav and following signs which read ‘to the beach’ took us to a quite residential street called Shore Road (the clue is in the name!) which leads down to the beach. There is a bit of free parking here.
The beach is lovely and wild, and we spent a happy hour or so wandering on the sand and clambering over rocks. The views across the bay to Grange-over-Sands are stunning. There are no facilities here…just fresh air, the sound of the sea and heavenly scenery. We loved it!
