Hoover and I have had two heavenly holidays in the north east in the last two years, and both times we stayed at the perfectly named Harbourside Cottage in Seahouses, Northumberland. (HC) (map).
The Northumberland coast has to be one of the UK’s best-kept secrets: the countryside is stunning, but for us it’s the beaches that really ‘wow’ us: huge stretches of sand and sky, broken only by a quaint harbour here, or a spectacular castle there. Located on the coast (as the name would suggest), the large village of Seahouses is perfectly positioned to take full advantage of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as visiting the countryside too. With Bamburgh Castle and Beadnell Bay on your doorstep there is enough to do in the immediate vicinity to be able to give the car a few days off. The village has plenty of pubs, restaurants and take-aways so for those looking for a break from the kitchen this is the ideal spot for you.
Harbourside Cottage is located on Harbour Road (streetview) and Juliet the owner has lovingly converted the former fisherman’s cottage into an outstanding holiday home. The bedrooms are on the ground floor leaving the first floor, and the wonderful views to the sitting room. You can quite literally sit on your sofa and watch the boats pottering busily in and out of the harbour. On a really stormy day it feels as though this cosy cottage wraps itself around you as you watch the waves crash over the harbour wall. On a sunny day you can throw open the double patio doors and soak up the views of Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands from the balcony…And as for the sunsets…wow!
The cottage has three bedrooms, so it’s ideal for families or couples, and because Harbourside is doggy-friendly, it is perfect hideaway for a human and her affable hound. Guests are welcomed with wine and chocolate cake, and dogs are welcomed with a bag of doggy treats….spare poo bags, a dog towel, and bowls are also supplied in case you forget yours. Juliet has thought of everything so there is all you need for a comfortable holiday and the cottage has a private parking space right outside the door, as well as wi-fi.
I can’t recommend Harbourside Cottage highly enough. We love it here and there’s a strong chance we wont be able to resist booking again next year. For more information take a look at the cottage website (web) or contact Juliet Hall. (contact) But leave a week free for us please…..
